The action of chromium in stainless steel

In stainless steel Chromium makes a decisive action.

So ar all of the stainless steel contains chromium. The reason why chromium has become the main element determining the performance of stainless steel is that after adding chromium to steel, the steel will has the development of corrosion resistance.

This change can be explained in the following ways:

1 Chromium increases the electrode potential of iron-based solid solution

2 chromium absorbs iron electrons to passivate iron

Passivation is an apperance(The corrosion resistanceof metal will be improved when the anode reaction is prevented)
